I can't see you, but I know you're there,
filling her with fright, too afraid to commit to anyone.
You make her lose her security and her pretty hair,
when she is sick, you think you've won; but the battle has just begun!
You may bring her to her knees begging for mercy,
but that won't last long, she'll jump back up to fight.
She'll flash that bright smile at you and walk away with a curtsy,
no matter what you do to her, she'll win,
even if you try with all your might.
She has something deep inside of her that's stronger than you,
you make her cry and feel weak, but her will to live you can't break.
All the love she receives from all of us is strong and true,
I won't let you ruin her love of life, that's a vow I will make.
You inhibit her organs, physical abilities, and sometimes her thoughts
but there's one organ that remains untouched by you, her heart.
It is something nothing can damage, it can't be sold or bought,
and with the end of this life, another waits for her to start.
Yes, we will miss her and mourn for her the rest of our lives,
but when I feel the gentle breeze on my face and in my hair,
I will know it's her hugging us and giving us cheerful high fives;
and when I feel the sun's warmth on me, I'll know she's there.
When it thunders and rains, I will know it's her calling me,
venting her frustration, wanting to talk and be near us again.
After the storm is over and I look to the sky, her beautiful eyes I'll see
whether in the drifting clouds or in the stars,
I will see her then.
You shatter so many lives by spreading tears and depression,
you make me feel helpless in helping her to get through this;
but I'll be damned if I let you sour her sweet disposition!
When you, Cancer of hateful name, do take her from us,
I will grieve for her always, but YOU I will not miss!
